Activist urges early AIDS awareness at global conference
Michael Jacobs of New York City told youths to learn not to fear condoms at age five. The conference draws 10,000 specialists as AIDS experts share findings and seek a cure, with CDC statistics showing 13 to 19 year olds account for 0.4 percent of cases and 65 percent of young adults 20 to 24 contracted it by 19. Most cases among adolescents are boys and whites, with major metro areas reporting the highest shares. Another discussion Monday addressed adolescent prostitutes.

Homeless AIDS Patients Highlight Treatment Challenges
Doctors from New York City Chicago and Miami told the AIDS conference that homelessness drives HIV exposure and hinders treatment. In New York City 66 percent of 107 homeless men with AIDS were infected and estimates suggest up to 8 000 homeless with AIDS there and 20 000 nationwide. Chicago found a 17 4 percent infection rate among 404 tested individuals.
