Beaversprite founder guards tiny sanctuary from harvesters
Dolgeville resident Dorothy Richards, 89, leads a wildlife haven named Beaversprite on a 1,200 acre sanctuary near Dolgeville in the Adirondacks. Her last beaver Nicky may soon retire from the indoor pool as danger from trappers grows, while the land remains closed to most visitors. Richards, once unfamiliar with wildlife, has spent decades studying and raising beavers in her basement to protect the species.
