Canal revival drives Western New York waterfront growth
Rochester and other Western New York communities push a 100 mile canal corridor toward revival with new docks, trails, and riverfront districts. The $19.1 billion Syracuse Inner Harbor project and local festivals draw tourists, while private property gaps pose planning challenges. Canal groups credit public will, volunteers, and leadership for progress as projects crowd Syracuse Oswego Baldwinsville and Fairport to expand recreation and economic activity along the Erie system.
