COUNTY ATTORNEY CHARLES MAJOR, now serving since 1944, enters the Fifth District race for nomination by the Supreme Court created by the Legislature. He seeks the Republican nomination for District Attorney, with Jeferson County’s Mivion A. Witse already in the GOP field. Other Onondaga figures named for the GOP slate include John F. Smith, Mayor Frank J. Costelo, and judges Abelson, Biechisky, and Skerritt. Regular Jefferson Republicans reportedly back Surrogate Russell Wright. Lewis County GOP favors County Judge Miller Moran.
