Big jump in nursing home abuse 1996 to 2000

congressional investigators found elderly residents abused in nearly a third of U S nursing homes over 1999 to 2001. 5,283 homes cited for 8,900 violations. 41,327 homes had more than one violation. 192 homes five or more. Waxman urges federal reforms.

Tragic drowning in murky Oneida River report details

Two men died while swimming in the Oneida River near the I-81 bridge in Brewer ton. Four men were in the water, a motorboat crew and a swimmer tried to help. one man swam to shore for help and another was rescued by the passing boat.
