An underground explosives depot at the Nof Yam military factory near the Rishpon settlement exploded at about 8 am. The blast in bunkers storing ammunition killed two people and injured at least 40, with a towering black smoke plume over central coastal Israel. Residents demanded the facility be moved.

Scraps of information led to the collapse of a large Central New York drug network. The ring moved cocaine from the Cali cartel through New York City, distributing 700 pounds of cocaine and thousands of pounds of marijuana across Onondaga County to Alexandria Bay and Montreal. Key figures included Camillus native Charles Kasper and Manlius real estate lawyer Thomas Oot, who has pleaded guilty to trafficking and tax charges. An Onondaga County deputy, Allen Toomey, helped assemble the case. sentencing for Oot had not been set.
