A new Bristol-Myers drug named DDI in Phase I trials controlled AIDS virus growth and helped patients gain weight and feel better. The firm plans to offer the drug free to critically ill patients while further tests are scheduled, with potential wide availability next year amid an estimated 1.5 million Americans infected.
Onondaga Indian Nation chiefs near Syracuse condemn gambling enterprises and a militant group protecting them in the name of sovereignty. Chief Leon Shenandoah says youths are armed security for casino owners, corrupting the community and misusing sovereignty for financial interests. The seven page statement was prepared by most of the nations chiefs and sent by fax to Akwesasne Notes editor Doug George.
