Teacher layoffs seen to lessen area wide

Public school districts in Central New York expect fewer teacher layoffs this summer amid declining student enrollment and district reconfigurations. About 100 or so teachers across four counties around Syracuse are projected to lose their jobs, with some districts like Fulton and Syracuse planning no pink slips. The drop follows past peaks in the late 1970s and reflects ongoing adjustments as kindergarten and secondary class sizes shift.
