The Central New York girls soccer team edged Western 1 0 on Sunday to capture gold at the Empire State Games final day. Central New York finished with 301 medals, including 115 gold, in a strong overall showing.
Guns N Roses Metallica and Faith No More played to fans near Buffalo at Rich Stadium this weekend. A slam dance frenzy left 56 concertgoers hospitalized after the show.

Water inspector Philip Drew added access by meters on outside walls, encountering empty homes and wary residents during Friday rounds. Onondaga County towns and villages have shifted toward larger water systems to serve tens of thousands of customers.
OCWA serves most of the county except Syracuse as towns weigh leasing water services. Salina spends about $1 million yearly with $1.8 million debt for capital upgrades and 9 staff serving 6,000 customers. Van Buren signed a five year OCWA contract for 1,800 customers and eyes switching in the Seneca Water District.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette resumes publication for first time since May as hundreds of striking drivers and supporters guard loading docks. Non union drivers from Massachusetts deliver papers amid threats to block trucks. Press and Post-Gazette had paused since Teamsters strike began May 17 over a delivery plan. Demonstrators heard the presses start before 5 a.m.
