Lima says Peruvian troops decisively repulsed all Ecuadorean attacks along the frontier in the Zaramilla River area. Reports from the front say a Peruvian airplane crashed in the border zone after 14 hours of heavy fighting with Ecuadorian troops. Emilio Bastes, an Ecuadorian immigration official, is said to have taken many Peruvian prisoners. Quito officials accuse a Peruvian plane of machine-gunning a hospital transport truck. Cabo Santamaria was wounded. Peruvian forces reportedly push in Alto Matapalo and Quebrada Seca sectors.

Nazis Claim 54 British Planes Brought Down

Berlin reports the German High Command says the RAF lost 54 planes in daylight raids over the channel area with three German losses and claims Britain has sacrificed 500 aircraft since the RAF began its offensive. The communique calls it one of the war's darkest days for British airmen and notes three British fighters were shot down along with other losses.

Germans claim air battles over Europe with RAF raids

German High Command reports eight gun fighters among wrecks and notes RAF advances last night. The zone described runs from Ostend to Calais as German air defenses claim slight civilian losses and minimal damage. Luftwaffe says it focused on Liverpool, Great Yarmouth, and scattered airfields while targeting ports and military objectives on Britain’s coasts.
