Libyan claims five Egyptian planes shot down in Tobruk raids

Libyan state reporters said Egypt launched air strikes against Tobruk area bases and other Libyan targets but Libyan defense downed five Egyptian planes. Cairo denied raids, calling the claims imaginary. The border clash followed days of fighting and a Libyan claim of near Kaara and Al Kufra air attacks.

Brown in Korea negotiates balance after troop withdrawal

U S Defense Secretary Harold Brown arrived in Seoul for bargaining with South Korea over President Carter's plan to pull out all 33 000 U S ground troops from Korea The Seoul government seeks aid to maintain a military balance with North Korea by the withdrawal deadline. Brown said talks will affirm U S intent to keep strong forces in Korea and the western Pacific and to determine measures to maintain the balance.

Rifleman Kills Four in Bar In Klamath Falls

A gunman fired on patrons at Uncle Albert's bar in Klamath Falls Oregon during the early hours injuring two more and killing four. Dewitt Henry a former bouncer was wounded after a police chase ending with a crash and shootout.

Freighter Leland J. Dean Sinks Off South Carolina Coast

A 640 foot freighter with 30 crewmen aboard sank today about 00 miles off Charleston. The ship, named Leland J. Dean, was a tanker registered in Wilmington Delaware. Coast Guard aircraft and cutter Papau rushed to the scene. Further details were not available.

Prospect Connecticut authorities charged 27 year old Lorne Acquin with nine counts of murder for killing Cheryl Beaudoin her seven children and 6 year old niece in a burned Prospect home. Acquin who had lived with the Beaudoin family was held on 250000 bond awaiting arraignment.

Michael Johnson a 19 year old Manhattan resident won the state lottery's $1,000 a week for life jackpot at a Jones Beach drawing. Johnson dressed simply in a tee shirt jeans and sneakers showed little emotion and said he would decide about schooling and work after the win.
