Sudden Marina Del Rey Explosion Kills At Least One

In Marina Del Rey California a sudden violent blast injured and killed at least one person and destroyed vehicles. Deputies described the event as a tremendous accident with a fire hydrant bursting water high into the air and debris from a car found at the scene.

Turkish diplomat slain outside Brussels home

Dursun Aksoy, a Turkish Embassy attache in Brussels since 1979, was shot dead in his car by a lone gunman who fled on foot into nearby woods. Police said he was alone in the vehicle and that this marked the fourth anti-Turkish attack in Brussels since 1978.

Hispanics Could Surpass Blacks as Largest U.S. Minority

A private Population Reference Bureau study forecasts Hispanics may become the nation's largest minority by 2020 if immigration remains near 1 million annually. With 37 more years, Hispanics would reach about 47 million, about 15 percent of the population, while blacks would total just over 44 million.

County proposes trash plant in Onondaga County

Onondaga County officials unveiled a 118.6 million trash fueled electricity plant proposal at Rock Cut Road funded by state aid and county bonds. NRC urged to inspect piping at five N plant reactors

The NRC asked to order five GE boiling water reactors shut down within 30 days to inspect cooling pipes for cracks after cracks were found in 11 similar units nationwide. Officials noted one reactor inspected with no data yet and two more due in October. five plants remain slated for inspection with dates from September to January.
