The mayor's site selection committee presented Burnet Park stadium sketches in Common Council chambers. Estimates for construction range up to 857704 dollars, with a low estimate around 490834 dollars, signaling a large surprise in cost.
City funds and plans for a major project were debated as four alternate layouts were shown in the council chambers. City Engineer Nelson F. Pitts highlighted estimates ranging from about $490,834 to $857,704 with seating for 4,300 to 8,500 and parking for 1,300 cars, plus options for lighting and concrete walls.
Selective Service boards set to deliver about 91 men for pre induction exams. Syracuse boards announce quotas and county listings with 141 selectees ordered. Military recruiters implement schedule changes and new enlistment standards including revised color and dental requirements.
The UN secretary general Trygve Lie urged 52 members to provide combat ground forces for Korea. He said urgent assistance is needed and that several UN counters await responses. Telegrams were sent to each member outlining the call for troops and support to back American and South Korean forces.
State Department spokesman Lincoln White outlined policy that the United Nations should settle the Korean crisis and that there should be no direct talks between Moscow and Washington. A meeting of 100 or more chamber division members urged deferral of action and publication of city long range improvement plans before reimposing the levy. They contend capital outlays should be funded by future revenues and note Corcoran s campaign pledge against re enactment.

The Labor Committee yesterday shelved a bill to outlaw rail strikes after a narrow 1 vote margin. Senator Donnell R-Mad, the sponsor, voted to send the bill to the Senate for debate following a subcommittee recommendation from last week.
The 20000 ton liner Franconia remains stuck on a St. Lawrence reef near Quebec despite divers inspecting the hull. Efforts to refloat the vessel have not succeeded, with the ship resting off Isle of Orleans one mile from Quebec.

A house fire in Robyn Quebec last night killed seven children of Mrs Mire Laonel Degagne. Victims included Rosa, Claudette, Carmen, Jean Roch, Gisels, Lucien, and Maurie Degagne, ages from 2 to 9. The blaze destroyed the family residence near the northwestern town.
UPI report from Tokyo describes Communist troops in American disguises crossing the Kum River near Taejon and breaking U.S. defenses. American pilots also destroyed seven camouflaged North Korean Yak planes near Kimpo Airport. Captain Millard A. Modges of Tulsa, Oklahoma, destroyed a plane despite heavy anti aircraft fire. The Kum River breakthrough signaled possible U.S. withdrawals as Seoul’s emergency capital had already pulled back southward.
Tomorrow’s low is forecast at 49 degrees continuing cool weather. Assistant Weatherman Alex Sadowski notes the low will dip to 49, one degree below the July 15 record set in 1926, with next five days averaging below normal. Last night’s low was 51 and tomorrow’s high should reach 74 as 1.1 inches of rain fell recently.
