In Rockford Illinois a yellow brick schoolhouse clinic seeks to shed state non hospital surgical center rules the Supreme Court agreed to review whether the clinic can operate without complying with ar ely strict requirements. Owner Dr Richard Ragsdale says the rules are medically unnecessary and deter abortion providers. Rulings by federal court and the Seventh Circuit paused the rules but the state appeals. The fall session may reset abortion rights as the court weighs teens cases and older statutes.
The Time CNN poll and Newsweek survey show most Americans oppose the Supreme Court rulings. Sixty one percent disagree with the Missouri abortion law decision and 57 percent oppose overturning Roe v Wade. Newsweek finds 53 percent disapprove and 37 percent approve.
President Bush, greeted by cheers, met with Gen Wojciech Jaruzelski at Belvedere Palace and planned to address the National Assembly. Secretaries Baker and Olechowski signed debt grace accords extending delays on about $1 billion, while officials warned no large aid package.

Bush also travels to two heavily polluted countries, seeking to inspire postwar scale aid and reinforce international ties.
