Solvay Hosts 99-Year-Old Dominick Varietta Visit
Dominick Varietta, born January 13, 1845 in Campobasso Italy, visited Solvay with his son Louis to attend a great granddaughter’s wedding. He travels from Cleveland Ohio, speaks little English, enjoys cards, wine, and walks with Theresa DiBiase as interpreter. He emigrated in 1935 at age 90 and has nine children with several grandchildren and great grandchildren, some serving in the American Army.

Cooperative Club to Install Officers Tomorrow Night
The Cooperative Club will hold a dinner meeting at the Hotel Syracuse at 6 30 P M to install officers and initiate new members. Syracuse Public Library circulates more in June than year before
June circulation at Syracuse Public Library reached 76,690 items, 3454 more than June 1938, with 11,805 attendees in the newspaper room. Eastiwood branch led branches with 961 books in circulation, Beauchamp 6,982, and fiction tops adult and juvenile lists while magazines and pictures and maps follow.

Five Remodeling Permits Issued by Syracuse Bureau
Superintendent Charles S. Keating of the Municipal Bureau of Building issued five remodeling permits totaling 351 200. Rudolph Brothers Inc. received 11 000 for general remodeling of a brick store at 435 South Salina Street. Syracuse Boys Club Polish Legion Branch remodels a former fire station at 729 Park Avenue into a brick clubhouse for 35 000. Mrs Philip Catalano of 326 Park Street remodeled for 2 500 to repair fire damage. Syracuse Elbridge Company remodels a cinder block building at 1108 Spring Street for 31 700.
