London broadcast reports Pravda denounces Bikini Atoll test as undermining U S disarmament seriousness and accuses United States of atom diplomacy. Pravda says the explosion proves power but disappoints expectations, calling the tactic common blackmail.
Former Syracuse mayor Jobe Walrath, a noted Democrat, is in critical condition at Syracuse General Hospital after a fall down stairs at his Durston Avenue home. Doctors report a brain concussion and possible skull fracture yet to be confirmed by X rays.

Gov Thomas E Dewey declared in Auburn that in a free society there is no government duty to provide permanent housing. He urged citizens to build their own homes with preferred size and location, after touring veterans housing at Mattydale Air Base and visiting the Onondaga County Veterans Service Agency in Syracuse. He spoke amid a short tour of the base and a visit to model family homes and single units.
FRANK HARRIS HISCOCK retired chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals died at his Syracuse home 930 James J. Tuesday night at age 90. He retired from the Court of Appeals in 1926 and from practice in 1935. He served as official referee after leaving the bench and led the State Bar Association as president.
President Truman allegedly asked four Supreme Court justices to resign, a claim described as fabrications by press secretary Charles Ross. The bylined report named Associate Justices Black, Jackson, Frankfurter, and Murphy, with details about communications at the White House dismissed as untrue.
Hans Kempka testified at the international military tribunal that he saw Adolf Hitler dead in the Reich Chancellery on April 30 1945 and helped carry Eva Braun's body outside for cremation.
