Pit bulls roam Syracuse streets dragging iron and bricks on collars. They are bred for aggression or protection and provoke fear in neighborhoods. A girl spent a week in hospital last year after a family pet mauled her. This year four minor injuries were reported. A pit bull is linked to a puppy’s death near Brighton.
Senate Leader Warren Anderson and Assembly Speaker Melvin Miller say they will back a pay hike for legislators from 43000 with plans to raise judges and agency heads as well. The change would take effect January 1, 1989 after the next election. New York already has the nation's highest legislative pay.

A Fort Bragg air show disaster killed four of six crew members including a Plattsburgh native and a ground casualty. The four engine turboprop C130 crashed during a demonstration, witnessed by about 5,000 spectators. First Lt John B Keiser II was among the dead.
