NAACP plans to pressure movie industry over representation
At its annual convention the NAACP authorized a boycott against major studios unless black representation improves. Geraldine Green notes blacks held 12 lead or supporting roles in 240 films released in 1981, while they make up 30 percent of moviegoers and generate about 400 million dollars in business. Meetings with nine major studios and the MPAA have yielded some movement but not enough to address the problem.
