Commodore Blandy reported the toll from Operation Cross into Bikini Lagoon, noting ships sunk or damaged by the fourth atomic detonation. He cited 94 ships in the fleet with several transports and battleships heavily damaged or destroyed, including Gilliam, Arlish, Lamson, Bart, and Arkansas in the evolving tally.
Government price controls expired at midnight and experts forecast immediate increases in meat milk and sugar with meat up to ten percent and sugar about one cent per pound. Chicago 37 year old University of Chicago student William Heirens was questioned more than five hours and emerged from Bridewell Hospital denying any confession. Heirens said he did not admit to Degnan kidnapping and slaying or to any other crime. He remained in custody as investigators pursued leads.

State troopers killed a 29 year old Honduran crane worker named Bert Miller as he allegedly prepared to kill a person during a confrontation in Plymourn Massachusetts. Miller was being hunted for two murders. The quick operation ended the suspected threat.

Two divisions of British troops moved cars trucks and radio cars through Jerusalem in what officials called the second phase of the campaign against Jewish terrorism and anarchy. The sweep targeted Jewish settlements believed linked to arms of Sagana, a Jewish underground army. Dr Chaim Weizmann and other leaders met for four hours at the Pioneers Club near the Jewish Agency headquarters, which the British seized Saturday.
CAPT Lon Kappin recalls the final atomic drop over Bikini Lagoon aboard a B 17. Two earlier tests preceded the real mission as the navigator counted down and the bomber released the weapon. The blast lit the sky, clouded the sea, and vanished the ship Nevila from view.
Goats on the deck of the battleship Pennsylvania stood calm as an atomic blast started a fire. Rear Adm. Pharacup Solberg, director of ships, observed the animals during damage assessment and said the goats looked gleeful and perfectly happy despite the danger.
