Snow Likely Tonight With Near Freezing Low At Hancock

The National Weather Service at Hancock Airport forecasts a 70 percent chance of snow tonight with a low near 32 degrees. Tomorrow brings a 60 percent snow chance and a high near freezing, with seasonable weather continuing through Wednesday.

Fire forces evacuation at State Department building

Several State Department offices evacuated after a basement transformer fire. DC authorities say the blaze caused about 50,000 in damage, was extinguished in 25 minutes, with no injuries reported. Battalion Chief Charles Culver noted the fire started in an electrical panel around 8 30 a.m.

Protests Arrested at Vandenberg Base Over MX Missile Test

More than 20 opponents of the MX missile were arrested at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California during a human blockade. An elderly 79 year old woman and a 12 year old boy were among those charged with trespassing by Air Force police as the facility prepared for missile testing.

Bus raid near Kampala leaves 30 dead, 14 wounded

Uganda Post reports suspected anti-government guerrillas stopped a bus north of Kampala on the Kampala Guru road, forced passengers to disembark, and opened fire. Thirty people were killed and 14 injured in the attack.

Syracuse teacher dies at waterfall

A Syracuse City School District science teacher Joyce Guldy, 30, fell 60 feet at Chittenango Falls along with colleague Robert Bliss while ice sliding after climbing a 167 foot waterfall. Guldy died at the scene from a likely head injury. Bliss, a Shea Middle School health sciences teacher, remained in critical condition at State University Hospital. Emergency crews pulled Bliss from a 12 foot water pool after a 30 to 40 minute immersion. Coroner Neal Rose noted no rope was observed and an autopsy decision was pending.
