Kids Project puppets teach disabled kids can be friends
Ellen Jane Petersen, an 18 year old veterinary assistant with mental retardation, stars in a Kids' Project puppet show that tours Central New York schools. The program, created in 1979 and run by the Syracuse Developmental Center, uses puppets including Brenda, Ellen Jane, Renaldo, Jennifer, Mandy, Mark and Melody to show disabled children as peers and to encourage questions from curious kids.
