United Way fine tunes allocations for 2002 04
United Way plans a June introduction of revised guidelines to refine grants for the 2002 to 2004 period. Officials say the changes are a minor adjustment, not a major shift like the 1999 overhaul that boosted a few agencies. A non scientific survey will guide grant decisions, with 23 000 copies distributed. The survey asks about priorities such as child care youth development and basic needs.

Tax cuts debated as New York weighs corporate relief
An Albany report outlines calls for cutting business taxes to ease pressure on the personal income tax. Proponents argue lower business taxes spur growth and jobs, while critics warn relying on high income growth is risky and urge contingency reserves.
