Gingrich Faces House Vote After Ethics Fallout
House Republicans prepare to punish Newt Gingrich over admitted transgressions with a reprimand and $300,000 repayment. Democrats delay a revote as both parties seek a political approach balancing ethics fallout with legislative priorities. Public polling shows majority want Gingrich removed, while some GOP leaders urge moving on with business.

Gingrich May Pay Penalty From Campaign War Chest
House Speaker Newt Gingrich could use his $1 million campaign funds to cover a $300,000 penalty recommended by the ethics committee. The panel urged reimbursement for investigative costs tied to his statements, with a full House vote set for Tuesday. Gingrich admitted he failed to seek proper legal advice about using tax exempt projects for political goals and said inaccurate statements were given to the committee.

Cole urges IRS probe into Gingrich finances
Special counsel James M. Cole recommends turning over all Gingrich investigation documents to the IRS and establishing a liaison with tax authorities. The ethics committee adopted the move as part of a plea bargain that could see Gingrich reprimanded and retain the speakership if approved by the full House. The report notes Gingrich did not seek legal advice on tax-exempt activities for political goals, citing possible awareness or recklessness.
