State ordered probe to cost Onondaga County taxpayers
Albany The estimated cost of special prosecutor Peter Andreoli’s probe of alleged political corruption in Onondaga County has risen to 728,700. Gov Hugh Carey’s new state budget provides 500,000 for the probe, plus 228,700 previously allocated in the deficiency budget. The added 500,000 covers 250,000 initial appropriation, 70,000 for supplies, 25,000 for travel, 130,000 for contractual services and 25,000 for equipment. A spokesman said county taxpayers would bear the bill under state law.

Gov. Hugh Carey proposes an $11.345 billion state budget for the new fiscal year starting April 1. Spending includes local school aid at 2.963 billion, welfare and Medicaid at 1.749 billion, local revenue sharing 719 million, and capital construction at 536 million. Income tax 4.615 billion and various other taxes total about 2.07 billion in other revenues with 158 million to cover this year's deficit. Bond sales projected at 171 million and federal revenue sharing at 273 million.
