U S war planners struck a nuclear weapons plant to pressure Saddam Hussein while aiming to avoid alienating Iraqis. The attack sought political impact over military gain, signaling Bush’s aim to keep Saddam in power seen as a threat to Iraqis and their leaders.
The Bush administration vows further actions if Saddam Hussein defies U.N. orders. A Sunday barrage in the south targeted Iraqi missile sites while a second strike in the north hit anti-aircraft batteries after they supposedly fired on allied forces. Pentagon confirms the actions.
Baldwinsville police found Virginia Hurd and Laszlo Juhars dead at 24 W Genezee St after her daughter could not reach her by phone. Juhars, 50, previously lived at 6799 Canton Street Road Warners. The time of death is under medical examiner review. Hurd had run for county legislator in 1991 and the couple, married about a year, had separated in July. Katherine Rogers said Juhars had threatened her mother.

Neighbors rescued two children, flames traced to a living room couch, and investigators noted Avery appeared intoxicated during police interview.
