Get-tough policy on disabled to begin in Watertown
Watertown city officials led by City Manager Thane pursue a hard line to force disabled police and fire personnel back to work or into disability retirement. Mayor T Arling Walker announced the plan as the City Council met behind closed doors to discuss ongoing court fights. Supreme Court action included orders for two freighters to report for partial exams and continued dismissals of two disabled workers appealing to the State Supreme Court Appellate Division.

DWI Cases Lead To Multi Youth Burglary Probes and Sentences
Delbert Shaw 26 of Richland was sentenced to 18 months to three years for third-degree attempted larceny as part of a four youth burglaries in the town of Oswego County. Shaw, a second felony offender, had prior larceny in Onondaga County. Five youths indicted Aug 12 pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted burglary. Lawrence Simpson 52 of Lafargeville received one year in county jail for felony DWI with a $1500 fine and license revocation after Aug 31 arrest in Hastings. Frank R. Lovejoy Jr 18 of Fulton got six months for second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument plus five years probation for a forged check case. Earl Switzer 16 of Pulaski drew six months for second-degree forged instrument possession.
