Firefighter hero aids in two rescues near Valley Drive blaze
DISTRICT CHIEF Burton H Wright received praise today for two rescues on Thursday. Off duty and nearby, Wright helped four adults and an infant escape a fire at 500-508 Valley Dr. He then fought the blaze as fire units arrived. The origin furnace caused extensive damage across first and second floors, with occupants including the Pierces and several other residents. Wright also aided Mr and Mrs John B Pierce from their blaze at 216 Highland Ave.

CYO Dinner Attracts 300 In Priory Hall
About 300 attendees packed Priory Hall at Most Holy Rosary School for a Catholic Youth Organization dinner. Speakers included Thomas Niland of LeMoyne College basketball, Mt Rev Msgr Howard McDowell, Fr Francis J. Savage as master of ceremonies, and humorist Martin St Lally. Rosary students performed with entertainment by Dick Case and Tom Reagan of Marcellus, plus Dolores Webb dancer, Elizabeth Gruen singer, and a school orchestra led by Jimmie Thornton and others.
