Casino gambling bill stalls in New York Senate panel
A state Senate committee on casino gambling failed to reach consensus on how to proceed this session. Senator Nicholas Spano of Westchester noted many questions remain as the Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee plans to reconvene next Tuesday. In 1995 a proposed constitutional amendment would have let voters decide on casinos in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Saratoga and the Catskills and allowed slot machines at horse tracks outside NYC with final passage required. Spano warned the June 1995 Senate support of 34-21 may not hold this year.
