Absenteeism on Syracuse School Board Reveals Gaps
A Syracuse school board report shows three of seven commissioners had high absence rates during 1986. Shirley Moody missed 40 percent of 85 meetings, Marjorie White 25.7 percent, and Frank Canino 11.4 percent of meetings. Others, including Sahbrici and Federman, had perfect or near perfect attendance. Fahey and Young posted low percentages. Moody cited illness and an artificial leg as reasons for her absences.

PSC Chairman Bans PSC Members From Politics
State Public Service Commission chairman Paul Gioia barred commission members from running for elective office or testing the waters for campaigns. He also forbade soliciting contributions from utility executives and Public Service Department employees in a move prompted by a Mannion contribution to Rosemary Pooler. Governor Cuomo floated replacing Gioia with Peter Bradford as head of the NY PSC before Gioia’s term ends. Pooler questioned Gioia’s authority, arguing the move limits constitutional rights and statutes.

Fire kills two at Elmwood Ave. son worries for siblings
