Eagles and Raiders reach Super Bowl showdown

Thousands celebrate as the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Dallas Cowboys 20 7 to win the NFC title and the Oakland Raiders beat the San Diego Chargers 34 27 to claim the AFC crown. Syracuse Sets Record Low As Bitter Arctic Air Bites Central New York

At 6 a.m. today Syracuse hit minus 18 degrees, breaking the old record of minus 16 set in 1968. The harsh cold, blamed on arctic air, has persisted for two and a half weeks, with temps 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Snow expected tomorrow with highs 15 to 20, winds SW 5 to 15 mph.

Auer pleads guilty to a misdemeanor in restraint case

State Sen. Martin S. Auer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of combination in restraint of trade tied to a 17 year scheme to siphon premiums to the county Republican Committee. The plea stems from a 1979 indictment during Special Prosecutor Peter D. Andreoli's probe. sentencing scheduled for March 6 with possible penalties up to a year in jail a $20000 fine or probation.

Puerto Rico base hit as nine jet fighters destroyed
