A mechanic’s plan to locate a rattle in a car led police to set up a kidnapping alert after a man shoved a boy into a trunk and sped away. The suspect Benedict Szot explained his son Mike was placed in the trunk to locate the rattle, and Mike found evidence inside the car.
National Airlines flight bound for Miami crashes on takeoff at Palm Beach Jacksondle. Pilot Captain Marshal Hops 46 and co pilot George Graham 25 report no injuries among 10 passengers and a calm stewardess guided everyone off the burning twin engine Lockheed. Flight originated in Jacksonville.
President Eisenhower asked Congress for power to cut tariffs up to 15 percent under a moderate gradual reciprocal plan. He urged a three year extension of the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act and proposed customs simplification, plus tax changes to encourage private investments abroad. Concluded on Page 24, Column 1.
The Hague report says a U S plane is missing after a crash about 40 miles off Holland. Alec Seymour, 49, of 452 Xatch Avenue, pleaded not guilty in Traffic Court to charges of driving while intoxicated. Bail set at 250 dollars. case adjourned.
