Robber may become lawyer in Maryland ruling
Gerald L. Shipley, a 34 year old Baltimore native and former bank robber, may take Maryland bar exams after the Court of Appeals ruled he has been rehabilitated. The decision, 4 to 3, centers on his crime in 1967, imprisonment, education and subsequent law study. Judge Digges warned the ruling could open paths for other serious offenders. Shipley earned a University of Maryland law degree in 1980 after Morgan State University and a political science degree.
