Weather clouds threaten shuttle Columbia launch at Cape Canaveral
Forecasts put success at 40 percent as thick clouds rain and poor visibility loom. NASA officials note a 60 percent odds against lift due to a front, with rain in the launch path triggering a scrub under agency rules. The 10 day mission aims to test long duration spaceflight and retrieve the LDEF satellite, a 1984 experiment cargo, later used for studies and seeds destined for education.
