Onondaga County started exporting its trash to Empire Sanitary Landfill in Pennsylvania. At 3:16 p.m. the boots, calendar, and potato were delivered to the 75-acre site, which buries 8.8 million pounds of trash daily, with 90 percent from out of state and is regulated by computer and video surveillance.

Payroll tax rise hits middle and upper incomes in 1992

The St. Petersburg Times reports that despite talk of an election-year tax cut, many middle and high earners will pay about $200 more in 1992 due to a higher wage base for the FICA tax.
