Two Killed In Sherburne Car Crash
Chenango County's first traffic fatalities of 1955 are Earlville couple William G. Georges age 40 and his wife 42 who died instantly when their car skidded on ice and hit a tree two and a half miles north of Sherburne on Route 12 B. He was an engineer with Technical Appliance Corp of Sherburne and the pair, formerly of Binghamton, leave three sons ages 14 12 and 30. Funeral plans are incomplete. Sheriff Frank J. Machio investigated.

New Year Salute Fails In Gastonia Firecracker Disaster
In Gastonia North Carolina six teenagers planned a New Year firecracker salute but failed to open the car window before tossing the giant cracker. The explosion injured 14 year old Robert Hardy who may lose sight in both eyes along with face arm and chest injuries. Two others suffered lighter injuries as the windshield and radio were damaged and upholstery torn by the blast.
