David Dudzinski and his family endure a rising hardship after Al Dudzinski learns in December that his position at GM Inland Fisher Guide will end this year. The family plans ahead as unemployment looms and financial stress increases.
Seven Syracuse University students filming a scene at the State Tower Building in downtown Syracuse watched Peter Oddo walk into an open elevator shaft. He dropped about 15 feet before friends pulled him out. Oddo, 23, was hospitalized in fair condition.
Ernie Bacon's seventh and eight graders at North Syracuse Junior High studied snow measurements for two days to answer Herald American questions. They calculated that Onondaga County snow could fill 17,450,000 tractor trailer trucks, form a convoy 150,000 miles long, and blanket Florida to three quarters of an inch.
In a police raid at a popular pub named The Arizona in Jerusalem two men were arrested after police seized 400 LSD tablets. The suspects allegedly planned to sell the drugs at Jerusalem high schools and were linked to Bart Simpson themed stickers found on the tablets.
Four boys from military families known as The Lost Boyz faced murder charges in the death of 14 year old Jackie Dacusin at Fort Drum. Giddings pleaded guilty to second degree murder and is to testify against Oakland as his trial nears. Jackie had recently moved with her soldier family and formed new friendships before the tragedy.
Syracuse police report an East Side man, 35 year old James Milo, found stabbed or beaten to death in his first floor Genesee Street apartment. Autopsy planned. identity initially withheld pending family notice. Milo co-owned Best and Company near Lexon Commons. vehicle seen nearby.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Central New York faces financial strain with 75,000 customers gone since 1990, flat investment income, doubled administrative costs, and $11 million in stock purchases plus $4 million in loans for its HMO subsidiary. The not for profit insurer reported net underwriting losses in four of six years while pursuing rising rates.
