London jazz musician Slim Gaillard 74 known for Slim and Slam and Vout-Croom died Tuesday of cancer. Rome's Sulaiman Ali Nashnush, 48, tall at 8 ft 1.5 in, died of a heart attack. Champaign librarian Robert Bingham Downs 87, retired director and author, died Sunday of pneumonia. Other obituaries noted.
