A four engine Air Force tanker on a refueling mission caught fire after takeoff from Sedalia and crashed into a farm north west of Windsor. Nine of 11 aboard died. two crew members parachuted to safety. Residents described a fierce explosion and a bright flash as the plane went down.

Weather Delays Atom Test Blast Near Las Vegas

The atomic proving ground north of Las Vegas was idle due to poor weather. Calves Escaped After Thruway Truck Overturns

A truck carrying 124 calves overturned on the Thruway near Peru causing a 6:30 A.M. roundup by state troopers and maintenance workers. Three calves died and three were butchered on scene. About 119 calves scattered across all lanes as workers corralled them into a makeshift enclosure.
