Reagan seeks burial at library grounds in Ventura County

Ronald Reagan could be buried on the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library site in east Ventura County if a plan approved by the county and Cemetery Board proceeds. Officials say the 80 year old former president and Nancy would join Hoover Truman and Eisenhower buried at library grounds, with Nixon's plans undetermined.

Money-short towns send workers to high-priced meeting

More than 100 town employees and elected officials from Onondaga County attended a three day conference at the New York Hilton and Towers where the hotel beer runs about $3.75 and the annual meeting of the State Association of Towns costs local taxpayers over $50,000. Budget increases are reported in every town with tax hikes in most of the 19 local governments. The Hilton stay featured dinners at $40 to $50 and a basic lunch around $10.

Italy backs USSR peace plan amid Iraq fighting

Italy endorsed the Soviet peace plan as Allied forces press for a ground war against Iraq. A senior Italian official named Nino Cristofori said the plan would start with a cease fire followed by Iraq's withdrawal from Kuwait and a pledge not to attack withdrawing troops. Tariq Aziz was to deliver Iraq's response in Moscow.

Allies fear Iraqi threat if Saddam keeps Kuwait

The report notes concern from allied leaders over Saddam Hussein’s potential regrouping after a Kuwait pullout. US military leaders say they would strike on order. Viran IRNA cites four hours of allied air raids on Baghdad with bombs every five minutes. King Fahd demands unconditional Iraqi pullout and war reparations to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Teen 18-Year-Old Kills Himself With Shotgun In North Syracuse

An intoxicated teen sat on Shaw Flower Drive and fired at his stomach as deputies and parents urged him to drop the weapon. Robert E. Weller Jr. of Gordon Road died at Lity Hospital after the 3 10 a.m. shooting ended a 45 minute stand-off. two friends were arrested attempting to approach the gun, and Weller was a Cicero-North Syracuse High School senior.

Niagara Mohawk wins tentative rate boost deal

Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. secures tentative state approval to permanent the 6.5 percent or 190 million rate increase started Jan 1 and outlines July 1991 and July 1992 hikes. The utility will credit 130 million to customers for Nine Mile Point 1 outage costs and detail includes 2.9 percent rise July 1991 and 1.9 percent July 1992 with additional year adjustments.
