President Truman faced uncertain prospects for a soft coal settlement this weekend. The fact-finders reported it as very doubtful, with no White House move planned before Monday. Cole, Lewis, and others cited hope mixed with caution as miners and leaders delay return to work amid tense labor talks and atmosphere.
