Syracuse University will raise base pay for the lowest-paid nonunion employees by up to 2550 percent, setting a starting rate of 7.75 an hour from July 1 under the Fair Wage initiative. The plan, approved by Chancellor Kenneth Shaw after a yearlong staff study, affects about 900 technical clerical and temporary workers and new hires, spanning food service and administration.
Univera Health care plans to relaunch its Senior Choice Medicare HMO for Central New York in spring after federal changes boosted monthly payments by over 25 percent. The not for profit said it dropped the program Jan 1 but will resume following improved reimbursement and program design. Dr Arthur Goshin, Univera president, cited improved viability after the 1997 launched program faced losses.
