Des Moines reports a stunning Iowa Republican result with George Bush failing to win one fifth of GOP support. Pat Robertson surged to third place, shifting the path to New Hampshire on February 16 and March 8 primaries. Democratic side remains unsettled with Gephardt challenging Dukakis and Simon still in contention. Bush faces a tough uphill fight as analysts count New Hampshire pivotal.
In Des Moines Kansas Senator Robert Dole captured a smashing Republican caucus victory. Former evangelist Pat Robertson shocked Vice President George Bush by placing third. On the Democratic side Richard Gephardt led, followed by Paul Simon and Michael Dukakis.
Campaign 88 opened with a strong third turnout for both parties. Dole claimed a clear victory margin beyond polls, while Bush posted a weak state showing. Robertson mobilized evangelical voters as analysts warned Bush’s race could end if New Hampshire fell.
In Manchester the 1983 presidential race moves to New Hampshire as Gephardt aims to convert Iowa gains into momentum against Dukakis while Dole targets a stronger showing in the first in the nation primary. Bush supporters chant pride as Robertson rises post Iowa.
Clean Room Technologies Inc plans to buy 4.2 acres at Hancock Air Force Base site in Cicero to build a light manufacturing facility making prefabricated environmental rooms for aero space, drug, and biotech industries. The move, second tenant at the park, aims to spur high tech growth in Central New York.
