Bishop removes pastor over parish neglect at Utica church

The Rev. Donald J. Bauer was removed as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Utica by Bishop David Cunningham of the Syracuse diocese. The bishop said Bauer neglected parishioners while not being fired, offering a transfer to another church while stressing care of the people over clergy. Bauer, 53, had previously been stationed in Utica a decade ago.

British PM reports up to 14 mercenaries shot in Angola

Prime Minister Harold Wilson told Parliament that up to 14 British mercenaries may have been executed by a firing squad in Angola with a number more killed in warfare. Ford details SS package and Medicare changes

President Ford asked Congress for a multibillion dollar Social Security tax rise, new catastrophic illness insurance for older Americans, and higher Medicare patient contributions to fund hospital and doctor bills. The plan raises the worker maximum to 1014 in 1977, costing most under $1 weekly, and would bring in about $4.4 billion in 1977. It recommends Medicare patient charges of 500 annually for hospital care and skilled services and 250 for doctor bills, plus rate limits for 1977 and 1978.
