Ten Die As West Side Fireclaims Ten In Upper West Side Blaze

A smoky fire in a six story building on West 94th Street near the Hudson River killed ten people including seven children and sent ten others to hospitals. The blaze began around 12 20 a.m. in a rear first floor apartment and spread quickly through pipe recesses. Firemen said carbon monoxide poisoning was the likely cause.
