A pillow left near a space heater started a minor fire early today at 601 Winkworth Park Way in Syracuse. 911 dispatchers said the blaze was extinguished quickly and no one was injured.

Trustees question green police lights outside Liverpool Village offices as Chief Don Morris links them to the Dutch colonial era New Amsterdam. A separate incident reports a minor dryer fire at Hallmark Nursing Home in Minoa at about 1 10 am with no injuries and quick containment by six departments.

Snow cave workshop invites adventurous volunteers

Snow insulates cold air and Beaver Lake Nature Center seeks volunteers for a snow cave build on January 20 at 10 am four miles west of Baldwinsville off Route 370. Bring a plastic shovel. A spaghetti fundraiser at St. Josephs Church Camillus on January 6 supports the American Diabetes Association Team Diabetes. Window Shatter Theft At Mall Contacts Local Teens

A 47 year old Bridgeport woman had shopping bags stolen from her car after a rear window was smashed at Shopping Town Mall. DeWitt police say she parked around 1 30 pm on Dec 19 and returned 90 minutes later to find the car broken into and items missing. Four Jamesville DeWitt High School students face Feb 6 De Witt Town Court on robbery and grand larceny charges after a 16 year old accused them of stealing his wallet and pager on Dec 16. Charged are Daniel A Black 17 Fayetteville Brandon M Jacobsen 17 Fayetteville Keith J Naples 16 Jamesville and Desiree F Yeroma 17 Jamesville. An 11 year old Syracuse boy is charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of stolen property in the case Statt reports.

Snowy day leaves Central New York battered by accidents

A lake effect storm caused 50 plus crashes and disabled vehicles across Onondaga County on Tuesday. Serious injuries were reported including Christine List, 44, airlifted in Pompey, and Bernice Bond, 24, ejected in Skaneateles. Snow totals reached 69 inches at Syracuse airport with 4 to 8 inch regional gaps and more snow forecast. Interstate 81 and the Thruway stayed open while hospitals treated multiple patients.
