George E. B. Allen resigned today as a director of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and urged broad changes in the RFC powers. President Truman appointed John D. Goodloe to take the 10 000 a year directorship when Allen’s resignation becomes effective Jan. 16, 1947. Announcement was made by Secretary Charles G. Ross. Butter Prices Fall in Syracuse Then Recover Briefly
Butter and eggs in Syracuse fell sharply today with butter down as much as nine cents a pound and eggs down five to six cents per dozen. Stores largely matched reductions, selling butter 80 to 87 cents and eggs 59 to 65 cents a dozen, while some merchants absorbed the fall. Flights of demand followed reports of lower prices in New York, and several chains and independents eased prices to satisfy customers before prices later rose again. A large butter wholesaler reported prices at 11 AM were still being quoted.
