City Opens Public Skating Rinks After Mild Freeze
Parks Commissioner William A. Barry announced Hiawatha Lake in Onondaga Park and the Wilson Playground rink are open for skating. Ten more public rinks will likely open tomorrow if temperatures stay low, as crews flood and spray surfaces in multiple parks. Morning side Park pool was being sprayed and may be usable tonight. Floodlight issues in Morningside Park delayed nighttime use, with bulbs scarce and old airport lights repurposed. Toboggan chutes are open but snow levels limit skiing and tobogganing.
