Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse launches two seven session workshops in January to train adults to teach reading. The Basic Reading and Literacy Skills course runs Mondays 6 to 9 p.m. January 22 through March 19, while English for Speakers of Other Languages meets Wednesdays 6 to 9 p.m. January 24 through March 31 in Room 209 Grewen Hall Le Moyne College. A $35 materials fee applies with contact at 471-1300.
Oscar-winning author Mark Haz ard Osman presents a para Dickensian novel Marley's Ghost tracing Marley from a coal mine childhood to prison, linking the tale to Dickens with a charitable push. Publishers Weekly hails it as moving and imagined. Osman donates five percent of first-run profits to Literacy Volunteers of America to support literacy.
