Richard C. Hall of Kirkville, a Navy corpsman with the 3la shes, recalls Communist leaflet drops over Chosin Reservoir in 1951 offering lenient treatment or death if U S forces surrendered. Hall, 24, faced frostbite and hunger before Marines fought to safety. He later joined Western Electric.

Car Hits Tractor Trailer on Clark Street Road
Mrs. Mary Vasile, 32, of 7 Easterly Ave, was taken to Auburn City Hospital for observation after her car collided with a tractor trailer near Halli Diner on Clark Street Road. The car was driven by her husband Samm Vasile. the tractor trailer was owned by Pullman Coach Company of Chicago and driven by Patrick Clune of Oak Lawn, Indiana. Both were not injured.

Miller Gets Freedom for Christmas
Former Syracuse resident Leroy J. Miller, serving a life term for second degree murder, has had his sentence commuted to time served by Governor Dewey. Miller, convicted by an Onondaga County Supreme Court jury in 1931 for the shooting of Gladys Biaich at the Fayetteville Inn, is slated for release before Christmas. Miller was among seven prisoners granted commutations this week.

Pardon bids linger for Miller at Sing Sing
In 1931 Miller faced execution by electric chair but Governor Roosevelt commuted the sentence to life imprisonment. Since then he has remained at Sing Sing while friends pressed for pardons, including a 1938 petition with thousands of signatures and jury members among the signatories. A 1933 pardon plea was denied.
