Movie star Frank Morgan and family escaped with painful injuries when a tire blew out near Cambray New Mexico causing a crash that left his wife with a broken leg and their son lightly hurt. The chauffeur William Martin suffered a fractured skull and was listed in critical condition.
Soviet planes attacked Helsinki and Viipuri with multiple raids. In Tammerfors air alarms sounded from morning to afternoon. Bombs, 200 to 600 pounds, damaged several buildings in the hospital district where most facilities had been evacuated. one hospital patient and several others wounded or killed.
The Fulton Town Send Club will hold a card party and Christmas program tomorrow starting at 7 P.M. in the American Legion rooms. Refreshments will be served.
British reports say Germany is extending the West Wall eastward from its southern reach to Lake Constance opposite Switzerland. The fortified line would run along the Rhine from Basle toward Lake Constance, adding a defense corridor of under 100 miles opposite the Swiss frontier.
Six Swedish sailors signaling with lamp on a raft after the 1,366 ton Lister struck a mine were rescued by a destroyer. The aircrew on a patrol British plane guided the warship to the scene. The incident occurred in the North Sea yesterday.
Dutch planes engaged aircraft of unknown nationality above Utrecht in a daytime air battle observed by hundreds. The clash began near noon as invaders reportedly approached from the East near the Netherlands border with Germany, a smoke curtain being dropped later in the incident.
An official report describes foreign fighter planes escaping protection, with heavy firing and smoke plumes near Akella. Witnesses noted eight or nine planes at one point, others two or three, as three foreign planes were seen over Veluwe toward Gelderland. Government press service confirmed escape from Dutch territory but did not specify nationality.
